Passive transport and active transport :)

Assalamualaikum :) Hai ! Priviet ! Hehe. Anehkan post kali ni. Sebelum ni tak pernah pun aku buat post yang mendatangkan faedah. Eh, ye ke? What ever!

Sebenarnya, dua hari lagi aku ada test Biology. Tapi  aku rasa macam malas gila nak study. Aish! Opss! Hehe.

Passive Transport

Passive transport does not require energy ( in the form of ATP ) from the cell !
The examples of passive transport includes the simple diffusion, osmosis and facilitated diffusion.
In passive transport process, the molecule move from high concentration to lower concentration through protein channel.
Lets look at the picture below !

The movement of the particle need protein channel to pass through.

Lets see another picture :)

The molecules move from a region at high concentration to the region at lower concentration through protein channel. There no energy is needed.

The first example of pasive transport is simple diffusion. Remember that?

Simple diffusion.

Diffusion is the net movement of solutes ( molecules, ions, or atoms ) from a region of higher concentration to a region at lower concentration or down the concentration gradient.
Lets see together :)

This process occur until there is no concentration gradient or its reached dynamic equilibrium.

IMPORTANT DEFINITION

Diffusion : Movement of particle from higher concentration to the lower concentration.
Dynamic Equilibrium :  The particle continuously move but there is equal concentration on both sibe of the membrane.

The rate of diffusion depends on :

Its clear? But I think so. :)

Facilitated diffusion.

Facilitated diffusion is the net movement of solutes across a membrane with the help of transport protein.
This process follows the concentration gradient and no energy is needed.

Two types of transport protein are involved in facilitated diffusion, that is :
  1. Carrier protein - bind to the molecule they want to transport and then they change shape, releasing the diffusing molecules at the other side of the membrane.
  2. Protein channels - have a central pore that is lined with charged group. The diffusion of charged particles such as ions is helped by these ions channels.
Osmosis.

Water diffuse from a region of high water potential to a region of lower potential.

Osmosis process is for water only !

Plasmolysis is a process whereby water leaves the plant cell by osmosis causing the plasma membrane to pull away from the cell wall.

If the plant cell is put into a strong salt solution, plasmolysis will occur.

Lets see the picture :)

The effect of different solutions on animal and plant cells.

Active transport.

Active transport is a process by which cells move molecules across a living membrane from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.
Its involved the use of energy in the form of ATP in the cell.
This process also involved carrier proteins in membrane.

The process of active transport.

Okey, now lets play this video ! Have fun ! This video will teach you about active transport :)

Sampai kat sini je la ye. Papai :)
